Jackie Robinson Day

It was a glorious day. It was Jackie Robinson Day throughout Major League Baseball.

I was prepared for a Dodger win.

It was wonderful to see Justin Turner looking like himself. Maybe he’ll come back soon. His hair and beard are growing back.

Of course I had to go to the club to eat first.

Clayton was on the field going through his usual routine.

Austin was catching

It was awesome that the giveaway was a Jackie Robinson jersey.

Since everyone was “42” and there were no names on the back, you have to guess who’s who.

Classic Clayton

Perfect weather for a Sunday. 70’s. But I was already feeling hot.

Are you already guessing who everyone is?

First pitch by a former Jackie Robinson scholarship winner.

Unbelievable that Chris Taylor is actually signing. I had been arguing with Norma’s friend Nick about Dodger stuff. I was starting to get a little heated about what he was saying about Matt Kemp. Why do I always have to defend him? And then while I was taking these pictures of Chris, I heard a big thud. It turned out that Nick had been hit in the forehead by a ball thrown by Chase Utley. Chase came over and apologized and said “Could I sign your head, I mean your ball.” Nick wasn’t hurt so the comment was funny. Chase signed his mitt and later sent a ball over to him. Never argue with me….!

Corey also signed. After all, it was Jackie Robinson Day. I want one of those jerseys.

Clayton and Austin.

First pitch

I seriously think someone is looking at me.

It was a classic Clayton Kershaw day.

In the top of the 1st inning, Peralta reached on a fielding error by Kike Hernandez who was taking Logan’s place who was taking JT’s place. Well, you know. He was left on base.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Dodgers were out in order. Zack Godley the D Backs pitcher has been great this season. The Dodgers were facing a formidable opponent.

In the top of the 2nd inning, the D Backs were out in order. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Yasiel reached 1st on a fielding error by Nick Ahmed.

Austin walked.

Chase walked. Yasiel to 3rd. Austin to 2nd.

Some discussion. What is going on anyway? We always beat the Dodgers. But it is Kershaw!!

Kike out on a sacrifice fly scoring Yasiel!! 1-0.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Peralta doubled but was left on base.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Corey walked. The Dodgers are showing a discipline that they showed last season.

Matt walked.

Cody singled with Corey on 3rd, Matt on 2nd, loading the bases.

Time for more discussion, more scuffling around.

Yasiel singled to center scoring Corey and Matt. 3-0.

The D Backs are definitely in trouble.

Austin walked with Cody to 3rd, Yasiel to 2nd.

Number 42 walks. Just kidding…that’s Chase. That walk scored Cody. What a way to score a run. I know the D Backs were fuming over that one. 4-0. Everyone was left on base when Clayton struck out. I know he was upset he couldn’t get a hit.

In the top of the 4th inning the D Backs were out in order. They had lost their spirit about that time. It seemed like they had just given up.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Chris hit a homerun, Corey singled. 5-0. In the bottom of the 5th inning, the D Backs were out in order,

In the bottom of the 6th inning Austin singled and by that time the D Backs coach replaced Zack Godley with John Ryan Murphy. It wasn’t any better for the D Backs. Chase doubled, Chris Taylor doubled scoring Austin and Chase. 7-0.

In the top of the 6th inning the D Backs were again out in order.

I was up in the club eating cookies. It was too hot for me….and the cookies were calling me.

Do you blame me?

In the top of the 7th inning Goldschmidt hit a homerun so the D Backs wouldn’t be shut out. 7-1.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, pinch hitter Breyvic Valera came into the game and walked. He just was brought up from minors to replace Logan who is out on 10 day DL with strained right shoulder.

He had been looking out at the field longingly before the game watching the guys stretching. He will be wearing number 33.

In the top of the 8th inning with Baez pitching, the D Backs were out in order.

Don’t you just love it. Long time coming.

Spy cam on the dugout.

Spy cam on Amy across the field.

The final score was 7-2. Clayton struck out 12. Chris Taylor broke out with 3 RBI’s with a homerun. Clayton finally had his first win.

So we ended Jackie Robinson Day happily as it should be.

The Dodgers go on the road and I go back to work. The homestand was not a complete fiasco.

Thanks for stopping by. See everyone soon. GO DODGERS!!!!
