On Thursday the Dodgers won the first game of the NLDS. The Atlanta Braves looked outmatched with Ryu pitching a gem and the Dodgers continuing their hot hitting.
The gates opened up 3 hours early so everyone could watch batting practice. However Dodger fans tend to arrive late and leave early. That was true for even play off games. As you can see the stands were pretty much empty until about 1/2 hour before the game. You could still get a playoff ticket from StubHub for only $31.
It was nice to see a few of the Dodgers in the dugout.
Manny was nice enough to sign for a persistent young fan who asked every person who walked by for a ball or autograph. Security asked him how many balls he needed. He said he was collecting them for Little League for their practice balls. I couldn’t believe he would use those treasured balls just for kids to hit around the field. I told him he should let other fans have the balls since he had gotten at least 6 from the players and coaches.
Chase was smart. He just walked by the kid.
So did Julio who was a little preoccupied with his little pink phone.
Austin was nice enough to sign for this kid although he wanted it signed on the sweet spot. How does he know what the sweet spot is and what does it matter for a child?
Kyle and Chris
I went up to the club to eat. The food was amazing. I couldn’t eat enough of the walnut shrimp and the pork belly. I first had gone to the team store and bought some post season stuff: pins and a couple of hats and shirts. I was surprised that there was an abundance of everything. These Dodger fans are surprising me. Norma arrived late and said that there still were a lot of pins left. Usually they run out before the game starts.
I hurried back to the stands but realized I was really early.
Christina was on the field warming up
I almost missed Yasmani walking down the field. Ryu was already stretching.
Ryu was picked to be the first pitcher in the playoffs. Not sure what this means except that Kershaw ALWAYS has been the first. Ryu has done well since returning from DL.
The Braves and Dodgers were introduced.
I always like the introductions with the first home game of the playoffs.
Here are a few of the players
It got smokier and smokier with each introduction since each was introduced with a little fanfare.
I felt like I was going through a forest fire. You could barely see the field.
Mike Brito threw out the first pitch caught by our own Steve Yaegar
And Fernando came out with a radar gun to see how fast the pitch was.
Then in all the smoke, a few of the players came out to throw and stretch
And then Yasmani made his way down the field by himself since Ryu never takes that walk.
Everyone was excited. The stands were beginning to fill finally.
Kike always gives the trainers a fond fairwell.
And Manny always brings a ball out and finds someone to play catch with. I know he’s not doing this for my benefit but he does throw slow motion right in front of me and he never looks directly at me. So it must be totally my imagination.
The Malones were all excited about the game.
And Dave Styles was one of the on-field announcers.
Dave, after all, is my boo
In the first inning Freddie Freeman was able to single but was left on base. Ryu looked pretty good but we didn’t realize then how wonderful he would be. I think that he earned the first start in the post season.
In the bottom of the first inning, lead off hitter Joc surprised us all with a solo homerun to start things off!
It was beyond exciting to see.
Cody walked with Justin to 3rd and Max to 2nd. Unfortunately Puig struck out ending the inning with bases loaded.
In the top of the 2nd inning the Braves were out in order.
Joc was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
Justin walked with Joc going to 2nd.
Then Might Max was up.
He blew the game up with a 3 run homerun making the score 4-0.
In the top of the 3rd inning the Braves were again out in order.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning the Dodgers also were out in order.
In the top of the 4th inning, Camargo and Freeman both ground out. Markakis struck out.
Ryu hit a single in the bottom of the 4th inning but was left on base. This guy can do it all!
In the top of the 5th inning the Braves finally got some hits with singles from Inciarte and Culberson but both were left on base.
In the bottom of the 5th inning Max walked but that was about it. By this time, the Braves were already on their 3rd pitcher.
In the top of the 6th inning Manny had a fielding error and Acuna Jr went to first. He was left on base.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, Kike hit a solo homerun making the score 5-0.
In the top of the 7th inning Albies hit a single but was left on base,.
In the bottom of the 7th inning Justin and Max walked but both were left on base.
It’s hard to describe how exciting postseason is. I always say that baseball brings families together.
And my good friend came down to my seat to say hi. What a nice surprise that was. She brought me the cutest Tervis tumbler. Thank you Jessica!!
In the top of the 8th inning, the Braves were out in order
In the bottom of the 8th inning Puig walked. Kike walked but everyone was left on base.
It was up to Alex Wood to close the game. Markakis singled. Floro came out to get the final out. Albies ground out to end the first game of this division series with the Dodgers beating the Braves 6-0.
It was a really good feeling win for the Dodgers. The Braves just seemed to be overmatched.
The next game would match our Clayton Kershaw with Braves SP Anibal Sanchez.
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate everyone who reads this blog. GO DODGERS!! Ten games to go.
