Saturday games with the Padres resulted in one win and one loss. However, the Dodgers were able to win the series. They definitely are a different team since Justin returned from DL.
Saturday was a nice day for me because one of my good friends Jessica Washington was coming with her family. She had pictures taken with Matt Kemp years ago and wanted more than anything to have them signed. Matt hasn’t been signing for a while. In fact few of the players have been signing with the exception of Cody Bellinger. I had my fingers crossed that Jessica would get her wish.
It was a perfect day. The weather was cooperating.
Kenley looking in very good spirits
Austin, Kenley and Matt
Not sure what everyone was looking at
A bit of a size difference between Austin and Kenley
Definitely time to eat. Here are the crudités. What a gorgeous display.
They even had a delicious melon drink. Very refreshing.
There always is a nice assortment of fruit. The green fruit are a kind of guava.
There always is at least 3-4 different kinds of salad
Veggies and potato dish. Now these dishes aren’t regular vegetables and potatoes. These are the best you would ever taste.
There is usually a chicken or turkey dish for those who don’t eat red meat.
I tore myself away from the food to go out to the field to greet Jessica and her family.
I couldn’t believe how her children have grown. The children are absolutely gorgeous. How could Matt Kemp ever resist them?
My other friends were also at the game. I took the opportunity to take their pics too.
Alex Wood who was the starting pitcher. Yes, I am wearing his jersey as I promised him.
Dave who is scowling as usual with all the tall girls
Logan, Chris and Max
Uh oh, a distraction…come on Matt!!!
Oh good, here he is. He did smile and nod at Jessica. Hoping everything works out.
Here come Alex and Yasmani
And the best thing happened!! Matt came over and took pictures and signed for Jessica.
And Jessica took my Mother’s Day hat that Matt had worn, and had him sign it. Thank you Jessica.
Life is good. I decided no matter the outcome of the game, it was a wonderful day.
First pitch. It’s a good thing I was in such a great mood because the game was not Alex’s best. It was a constant catch up game and the Padres ultimately won the battle.
In the top of the 1st inning the Padres were out in order. So far so good.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, Chris Taylor hit a solo home run to left field. 1-0.
In the top of the 2nd inning Reyes walked and then Freddy Galvis hit a 2 run homerun. 1-2. AJ Ellis singled but was left on base.
Yes, our old friend AJ is with the Padres.
Yasmani walked but was left on base.
In the top of the 3rd inning, the Padres were out in order.
Chris hit a double to left field in the bottom of the 3rd inning but was left on base.
In the top of the 4th inning, the Padres were out in order.
In the bottom of the 4th inning, Justin Turner hit a solo homerun tying the score. 2-2
Matt hit a single to center field.
Yasmani singled to right field with Matt going to 3rd.
Logan singled scoring Matt. 3-2.
Joc ground out scoring Yasmani. 4-2.
Former Dodger AJ Ellis hit a solo homerun in the top of the 5th inning. 4-3. Margot doubled. He was left on base.
Max Muncy singled to right field
Cody walked, scoring Max. 5-3.
In the top of the 6th inning, Pirela singled. Villanueva hit a two run homerun tying the score again. 5-5.
In the bottom of the 6th inning, the Dodgers were out in order.
In the top of the 7th inning, Szczur singled. Scott Alexander replaced Alex Wood. Jankowski was hit by a pitch and walked. Pirela singled scoring Szczur. The Padres pulled ahead 5-6.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Justin reached 1st on a fielding error but was left on base.
With Josh Fields pitching in the top of the 8th inning, Villanueva hit a solo homerun bringing the score to 5-7.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, Joc singled but was left on base.
In the top of the 9th inning, Margot walked, Jankowski singled and stole 2nd base. Hosmer was intentionally walked and everyone was left on base. It didn’t matter because the Dodgers couldn’t score in the bottom of the 9th inning.
It was a disappointing game. The blame seemed to be heaped on Alex Wood but the bullpen didn’t help especially Josh Fields.
Sunday’s game was supposed to be not so hot but I could only tolerate sitting out in the sun for 1 inning or was it 2?
There wasn’t much going on before the game since it was a day game and there is no batting practice. It already was getting hot.
The food was semi breakfast food which isn’t my favorite. There was bacon and sausage. The chorizo encrusted chicken was delicious however.
They gave me a special treat. Strawberries and Nutella toast. So good!!! I needed a little pick-me-up. They always make me feel special in the club. Thank you Amy and Bud.
I had not had a great morning. I had tripped in the front yard and landed on both knees. My right knee already is a bit problematic but having both knees on the DL is not fun. Everything was a little sore so I was not very happy. The sun pounding on me definitely added to my misery. I took 2 arthritis strength Tylenol and hoped for the best.
Yasmani was walking out to the field. His gear was Memorial Day oriented.
Walker Buehler was starting and was on the field for half a minute.
The sun was definitely going to be a problem. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky.
Walker and Yasmani on their way to the dugout. Walker had another great game.
I love this pic of Kike and Justin. Just two guys having a great time.
This kid didn’t follow the script during “Kids Take the Field.” He ran almost to the left field pavilion rather than going to Matt to get his autograph.
In the 1st inning, Pirela doubled but was left on base. Uh oh.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, Chris walked but was left on base. I was eyeing the club and its air conditioning.
In the top of the 2nd inning, the Padres were out in order.
By this time I was up in the club. No thanks to the sun.
Walker had a great game, no walks. The Padres could only get one run. During the game it was announced that Clayton Kershaw would be the starting pitcher on Thursday. Our ace would be back!!! Best news ever!!!
In the bottom of the 8th inning, Cody hit a 2 run homerun.
It was good for Cody who is still trying to find himself after being the Rookie of the Year last season. The final score was 6-1.
And the Dodgers win. They win the series against the Padres.
And the Dodgers win. I was happy to go home early. It’s a long homestand. There are still 4 games left.
On Monday, Memorial Day, Brock Stewart 0-0 ERA 3.72 faces the Phillies Vince Velasquez 4-5 ERA 4.18.
A special thank you to all servicemen past and present for your service. It’s not just a day for baseball and BBQ’s. We need to remember especially those who lost their lives so we can continue having the great country we all love.
Glad to have my son home.
New pic of Mike Bolsinger now with the Chiba Marines in Japan. He’ll always have my heart. Not my pic but wish I had taken it!
Thanks for stopping by. Hope everyone has a fantastic Memorial Day. GO DODGERS!!!
