Wednesday was Andre Ethier bobblehead day but I don’t remember it being so terrible. It was crowded as usual. It was the hottest day of the week but it wasn’t all that bad. It was the third game of the series with the Mets. The Dodgers had resoundingly beat them in games one and two. It was so hot that the Dodgers didn’t have batting practice. Sergio Romo signed autographs and took pictures for a long time which is an unusual occurrence. It was National Selfie Day so I snagged Hyun-Jin Ryu to take a selfie of us.It’s kind of cute and displays Ryu’s playful personality.
Clayton pitched a few to a trainer. Kenta was playing catch with his translator and little buddy Will. And Kenley was just being Kenley.
Here is Hyun-Jin shortly after the selfie.
Kenley at the dugout
Time to eat.
The roast beef was delicious as were the Brussels sprouts. The salads are always yummy. I took my time eating since there was no batting practice, few of the players were out on the field and in the dugout so I had gone up to the club a little early.
The nice guys at the door of the club told me to get a pair of sunglasses at the podium. They were given out by DonJulio who sponsors the club. They came complete with soft cloth case. Not so shabby.
I was happy to see gorgeous Alyssa. I told her I was making myself her god aunt.I was greeted by Robert with his 10 month old lookalike daughter Elsa. She’s not sure if she likes me.
The guys were warming up as though they had to in this horrible heat.
Rich Hill was stretching and throwing some practice pitches.
What??? Cat is wearing a shirt with my name on it?? How awesome is that?
The ball in his back pocket looks weird.
Since it was Andre Ethier bobblehead day, his boys Dreson and Retton threw out the first pitch. One of them looked unhappy with his pitch.
I had never seen his daughter before. Apparently she doesn’t like me either.
Weird thing about this game…Cody didn’t hit a homerun. I’m sure there will be talk about what could be wrong with Cody.
National Anthem. Hyun-Jin seemed to be gesturing at me. He was holding up two fingers. I looked around and there was no one looking at him except me. I wonder what he wanted.
Yasiel, Cory and Joc. No one signed for the kids. Too focused.
Here come Yasmani and Rich
First pitch….oops wrong picture.
Getting ready for that first pitch
And here we go.
Right off the bat, first Met up Curtis Granderson hit a solo homerun. We all kind of sank into our seats. 0-1. Next up Wilmer Flores doubled but thankfully was left on base.
In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Dodgers were out in order. I was starting to feel a little uncomfortable.
In the top of the 2nd inning the Mets were out in order. In the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Dodgers also were out in order.
In the top of the 3rd inning Granderson singled to center field but was left on base.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Joc showed great patience and walked.
Yasiel went to 2nd base on an error by one of the Riveras. Joc went to 3rd on that play. We were on our feet with excitement.
And Rich Hill our starting pitcher who is not known for his hitting prowess, hit a huge sacrifice fly scoring Joc, tying the score!!! 1-1. This was Rich’s first RBI in many years.
In the top of the 4th inning, there was a lot of activity with Jay Bruce walking, Travis d’Arnaud hitting a single and TJ Rivera reaching 1st on a Dodger error. All were left on base. Whew!!! Good job Rich. However it did drive his pitch count up.
Some discussion between Tyler Pill and his catcher d’Arnaud.
Danger danger Will Robinson…here comes Cody. He hit a double to right field and advanced to 3rd on an error by Jay Bruce. The Mets defense was looking pretty awful.
Logan doubled scoring Cody. 2-1.
Are you serious? They’re intentionally walking me to pitch to Yasiel. Who decided that? Big mistake.
Yasiel hit a 3 run homerun admidst all the Mets complaining and crying. First baseman Wilmer Flores apparently told Yasiel to run faster. Yasiel slowed down as he ran to 2nd but kept on going which showed a lot of character but threw back the f-bomb at him. The catcher took his mask off to give Yasiel a piece of his mind. The Mets are obviously upset about their #@%^ playing but come on guys, just play better!! Wah wah wah. Oh, and the score 5-1. The Dodgers never looked back.
In the top of the 5th, with his pitch count mounting, Hill walked Cespedes and Bruce but was able to get out of the inning unscathed. He had only allowed one run.
Honey came out to talk to Rich and make sure everything was ok.
Pitching change took place before the 6th inning with Sergio Romo in relief. The Mets were out in order. Good job Sergio.
Then Yasmani surprised us with a solo homerun in the bottom of the 6th. 6-1.
In the top of the 7th inning with Grant Dayton pitching, the Mets were out in order.
In the bottom of the 7th inning the Dodgers also were out in order.
In the top of the 8th inning Brandon Morrow replaced Grant Dayton. Who is that? Yikes…Cespedes hit a double but thankfully was left on base.
In the bottom of the 8th inning after Cody struck out and Logan hit a fly out, Yasmani hit his 2nd homerun of the game. 7-1.
Joc drew a walk.
Yasiel also walked with Joc going to 2nd.
After the Mets had a discussion, pinch hitter Austin Barnes hit a huge single to center field scoring Joc. 8-1.
In the top of the 9th inning, Luis Avilan replaced Brandon Morrow. Ceccini singled but was a force out at second in the next play. Granderson who was the only Met with success against the Dodgers hit a double to right field scoring Conforto who was part of the force out in the previous play. 8-2. Wilmer Flores who had given Yasiel a hard time was the final strike out. Karma. The Dodgers win 8-2.
Everyone took the shortcut out of the dugout.
It was a satisfying win. It brought the Dodgers back into first place with the Rockies losing to the D Backs. There was another hero in this game, one of my guys #puigmyfriend. Cody and Cory don’t have to carry the team every game. It was good to see Yasmani with homeruns in the last two games. No one works harder than he does.
Thursday I will be attending a luncheon in the Dugout Club with Dave Roberts. It will be an all day affair for me with the game that night. It is also Game of Thrones day. I’ll be getting the awesome Game of Thrones tee shirt at the special events tent in the right field pavilion area. The weather is predicted to be in the 70’s. So glad that the heat wave is finally over.
In this final game of the Mets series Dodger pitcher Ryu 3-6 ERA 4.35 will face Steven Matz 1-1 ERA 3.21. Hopefully we can sweep the Mets and remain in first place.
Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your support. GO DODGERS!!
