Mets Game 2

Tuesday was another hot day.  It was also Hawaiian Day.  There was a tote bag giveaway which really didn’t bring a huge crowd.  Wednesday would be the crowd with an Andre Ethier bobblehead.  Andre hasn’t played this year at all because of a back issue.  He had a broken leg last year.  But we all still love Andre.  He deserves a bobblehead.  There couldn’t be a nicer Dodger.

I didn’t take any pictures during batting practice because I was just too hot.  I couldn’t pass up a picture with the elusive Sergio Romo though.  Thanks to Sergio who took this selfie for me.  Nice job.
I took a couple of Cody pics in the dugout with my Iphone.
Dave Roberts
Kenta
#puigmyfriend who seems to be giving a fan a hard look.  This “fan” must have at least 30 autographed balls signed by Yasiel.  How many does a person need?
I ran over to the special events tent and picked up my Dodger Hawaiian shirt.  It’s a nice shirt.
And then I went to the club to eat the Hawaiian food that the chefs had prepared.  I wasn’t disapppointed.  The Kahlua pork melted in your mouth.  The Huli Huli turkey made with garlic, ginger, scallions, brown sugar glaze, rice vinegar and pineapple juice was out of this world.  I couldn’t believe how wonderful the Hawaiian lasagna was.  It was made with pizza sauce, pineapple, ham and shredded cheese.  The salads were amazing.  They included pina colada slaw salad made with pineapple, toasted coconut, macadamia nuts and coconut pineapple vinaigrette.  There was a macaroni salad and pineapple chicken salad made with romaine, pineapple, carrots, almonds and honey pineapple vinaigrette.  The menu was outstanding.
First Yasmani and then Brandon McCarthy made their way down the field.  I was wearing my McCarthy jersey as I promised Brandon I would.  It’s our good luck jersey.   I’m the only one with his personal jersey so I treasure it.
He threw some warm up pitches.  Brandon has worked through injuries to have an amazing season so far.
The guys came out to warm up.  I was wearing Chris Taylor’s tee shirt under my McCarthy jersey so I took off the jersey for a few minutes hoping that Brandon didn’t look my way.   Chris didn’t look at me once.  However I have a feeling he saw it.
The National Anthem was sung by George “Fiji” Veikoso who was born in Fiji but was brought up in Hawaii.
And here comes Brandon, Yasmani and Honey
There was a bit of preparation before that first pitch
Let’s see.  Cat…do you have my jersey on.  OK now I’m ready.
First pitch
In the top of the 1st inning, the Mets were out in order.  That was definitely a good start.  For some reason bad things happen in that first inning.

In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Dodgers started their domination of the Mets with a Logan Forsythe single to center.

Then Corey was ready to start his homerun derby
Corey hit a 2 run homerun scoring Logan.  2-0.
Justin reached 1st on a throwing error
Then Cody hit his 22nd homerun of the season, scoring Justin.  4-0.
Yasmani singled but was out at 2nd with a Puig ground out.
But first Mets pitcher Robert Gsellman almost plowed Yasiel down.
He definitely wasn’t having his best game.
Joc walked, Yasiel to 2nd but both were left on base when Brandon McCarthy was out with a fly ball to center.  Wow!!  That was all in the 1st inning!!
In the top of the 2nd inning,  TJ Rivera singled, Rene Rivera singled (what?  2 Riveras on the Mets?  No wonder it seemed like Rivera was always up) but both were left on base.

In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Corey doubled with a slide into 2nd.  It looks like he got a little Dodger dirt in his pants.  What a mess.  Poor Corey.
Cody was intentionally walked.  The Mets might as well have intentionally walked all the Dodgers since all of them are on fire.
Chris Taylor walked loading the bases.
Yasmani ground out with the bases loaded and 2 out.  I’m sure he broke a few things in the dugout.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Conforto was hit by a pitch but was left on base.  In the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Dodgers were actually out in order.  What??

In the top of the 4th inning, Jay Bruce singled but was left on base.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Corey hit a solo homerun.  5-0.  That was homerun #2!!
In the top of the 5th inning, Cecchini singled to right field, Conforto walked but both were left on base.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Yasmani hit a solo homerun to left field. 6-0.
Yasiel doubled to right field
Joc hit a ground rule double scoring Yasiel.  7-0.
Mets pitcher Robert Gsellman was finally replaced by Josh Edgin who didn’t fare any better.
Logan walked
And Corey hit his 3rd homerun of the day scoring Joc and Logan.  10-0.
In the top of the 6th inning, the Mets were again out in order.

In the bottom of the 6th inning, Yasmani singled to left, Yasiel singled also to left, Joc walked, Franklin Gutierrez walked scoring Yasmani.  11-0.  Pitching change again with Fernando Salas replacing Josh Edgin.   Logan singled scoring Yasiel.  12-0.

In the top of the 7th inning, RENE Rivera was hit by a pitch but was left on base.  In the bottom of the 7th inning the Dodgers were amazingly out in order.

In the top of the 8th inning, the Mets were out in order.  In the bottom of the 8th inning, Yasiel walked .  Joc was hit by a pitch but both were left on base with Brock Stewart hitting a fly out to center and Logan striking out.

You feel pretty confident when the score looks like this in your favor.
Brock Stewart pitched 3 innings in relief allowing no runs.
There goes Clayton. In the top of the 9th inning, Lucas Duda walked but TJ Rivera ground into a double play ending the game.  12-0.
It was another remarkable game for the Dodgers.  Corey had hit 3 homeruns with a one run homerun, a 2 run homerun and a 3 run homerun.  He only needed to hit a grand slam for the cycle.  All the attention has been on Cody Bellinger who hit his 22nd homerun.  At Yankee Stadium, their phenom is Aaron Judge who has hit 24 homeruns.  Judge even has his own section called the Judges Chamber.  It resembles a courtrooms jury box with faux wood paneling.  Only chosen fans and family can sit there.  Remember Mannywood honoring Manny Ramirez who also had brought excitement to Dodger Stadium a few years ago.

Wednesday’s game will be hot and unpleasantly crowded.  I’ll try to ignore all the rude fans.  Rich Hill 3-3 ERA 5.14 will pitch for the Dodgers.  Californian Tyler Pill  0-2 ERA 3.75 will take the ball for the Mets.  Geez…Pill and Hill.  The pitcher would have been Matt Harvey but he went on DL last week.

The Dodgers still are 1/2 game out of first place behind the terrific Rockies who never seem to lose.  The D Backs have fallen two games back.  The Western Division is a tough division with all 3 top teams winning more than any of the top teams in either the AL and NL with the exception of the Astros who have won 48 games.  The Dodgers have one more game with the Mets after today and then face the Rockies for a 3 game series over the weekend.  That will determine who will be at the top of the Western Division.

Thanks for stopping by.  I appreciate everyone’s support.  Pray for me in all this heat.   I just don’t understand why the guys never even look hot out there.  I know Yasmani has said he likes the heat because he doesn’t have to warm up his muscles…but this hot??   GO DODGERS!!!  Let’s sweep the Mets!!
