Who would have believed that the Dodgers could beat the Yankees at Yankee Stadium by such a large margin? The Dodgers starting pitcher was Jose De Leon, rookie extraordinaire, only pitching his second game.
The Dodgers started the damage in the first inning, Chase Utley and Corey Seager both hitting singles and Adrian Gonzalez grounding into a force out scoring Chase. 1-0.
In the second inning, Howie Kendrick and Andrew Toles both singled, Chase reached on a fielding error by Judge scoring Howie and Toles. 3-0. Corey proceeded to hit another single scoring Chase. 4-0.
Starlin Castro homered in the second inning. 4-1.
In the top of the 3rd inning, Yaz singled, Josh Reddick doubled. Howie hit another single scoring Yaz 5-1. At that point Yankees starter Bryan Mitchell was replaced by Chasen Shreveport. Howie stole 2nd base (remember he was on 1st?) and Josh scored. 6-1 on another Yankee error.
The Yankees were falling apart. Aaron Judge hit a solo homerun in the 5th inning. 6-2.
In the 6th inning Pedro Baez replaced rookie Jose De Leon and put the Yankees out in order. In the bottom of the 7th inning after allowing a single to Ronald Torreyes (remember he was a Dodger for half a minute?) was replaced by Grant Dayton who made the final out of the inning.
The 8th inning was Puig’s inning with his solo homerun pinch hitting for Joc. 7-2. Puig stayed in the game after that in right field, Kike to center.
Joe Blanton replaced Grant Dayton and allowed a Starlin Castro double. Uh oh. But luckily Castro was left on base.
In the 9th inning Justin Turner hit solo homerun making the score 8-2 which ended up being the final score. Adrian singled but was left on base.
On Tuesday Julio Urias 5-2 ERA 3.69 will face veteran Yankee CC Sabathia 8-12 ERA 4.27. Yasiel Puig will start in left field. Yes…let Puig play!!
The poor Dodger rookies had to dress up for the flight. Thank you Alanna Rizzo for the pic.
